COMPETITION RULES

2002- 2003

MONTHLY COMPETITION

The competitions will be held during the months of September, November, January, March. These competitions consist of 4 entries per division on any subject, submitted by each contestant, for a maximum of 16 entries per division per year.

TIME & PLACE

The judging is conducted at the regular meeting place of the Pixel Image Camera Club.

All entries for any month’s contest must be entered with the Contest Chairman no later than 7:30 pm the evening of the judging. Sufficient time should be given to enable the recording and arranging of entries for the judging. Viewing of the judging is open to all club members and guests.

DIVISIONS

There will be five separate divisions.  Small & Large Monochrome Prints, Small and Large Color Prints and Electronic Images.   Members may submit entries in each or all divisions as desired for each competition.

CLASSES

Small Color Prints will have two classes - A & B.  All other divisions will have only one class.  Members entering competitions for the first time will normally compete in Class B, unless electing to go into Class A. The 1st place member of Class B, at the end of each yearly competition, will automatically be advanced to Class A. Any member may be advanced at any time by the Contest Chairman and his committee. A member may not move back to Class B after qualifying in Class A.

ENTRIES

Up to 4 entries may be submitted in each division for each competition. The same picture cannot be entered in more than one division in the same night. Entries previously submitted by the same maker are considered the same if they are almost identical in subject matter, composition, incidental props, or lighting or technique. It is the responsibility of each contestant to enter only eligible entries. If ineligible entries are entered, the maker entering them will lose all points earned by such entries at the time ineligibility is discovered. There are no makeup privileges for ineligible entries. Any challenge should be presented to the Contest Chairman for disposition, subject to an appeal to the elected officers, whose decision is final.

Images which are photographic copies of paintings, drawings, or another photographers work are ineligible: these items may, however, be included in a composition of the maker’s own creation.

At the end of each competition 8 entries per division will be chosen to be sent to CACCA for judging. These entries will be selected at the discretion of the Contest Chairman in accordance with existing CACCA rules.

GENERAL RULES FOR ALL ENTRIES

All entries must start out as a photographic image by the maker. A slide, negative or print can be imported into a computer by way of a digital camera, scanner or a photo CD. Any special effect that is created by computer is allowed as well as merely cropping or making changes in exposure, color corrections, etc. No images that are completely generated by computer software, such as fractals, are allowed.

GENERAL RULES FOR PRINT COMPETITION

Prints must be printed from any type of output device that produces a photographic image, such as, but not limited to, an enlarger or ink jet printer. Image files may also be sent to a service bureau for prints. Small prints can be up to 11" x 14" in size and must be mounted on a 11" x 14" mounting board. Large prints must not exceed 16" x 20" mounted on a 16" x 20" mount board. A title, maker’s name, division class and club name must appear on the back of the mount in the upper left corner.

GENERAL RULES FOR ELECTRONIC IMAGE COMPETITION

Images submitted electronically will be projected using a laptop computer and video projector. Files must be emailed, or mailed on disk, to the person responsible for preparation of the images. File sizes should be compressed in .jpg format and should not exceed 300K in size. Image size should be approx.  6" high for verticals and 8" wide for horizontals. All images should have a resolution of 96 ppi.   Images are to be emailed to:  rmf1305@aol.com at least 5 days before the competition meeting.

RETURN OF ENTRIES

All entries are available for return immediately following each contest after the scores have been properly recorded, unless the Contest Chairman selects any for entry in a later competition of photographic prominence.

MAKEUP ENTRIES

A maximum of 4 entries may be entered per division in one competition to make up for missed competitions. All makeup entries will be judged separately for point scores only and will not be eligible for that evening’s awards.

ENTRY FORMS

Each maker’s entries must be listed on an entry form. The date, maker’s name, division, class and title must be properly filled out. Makeup entries must be on a separate entry form.

JUDGING AND SCORING

Each month’s entries will be scored by a jury of three judges who have been selected for that month by the Contest Chairman. Scoring is numerical. Each judge scores a print or slide form 3 to 9 points, inclusive, making the maximum score obtainable on any one picture 27 points. Records are kept for each entry by the Contest Chairman and committee with monthly totals added cumulatively in order to obtain the final score at the contest year.

MONTHLY AWARDS

For each monthly contest, in each class, Award and Honorable Mention prints and electronic images are selected from among the highest scoring ones which will approximate 10% of the total entered. Suitable inscribed ribbons will be awarded to the winners at the next meeting following the competition. If only one individual has entered a division, his or her entries will be judged and scored. Any Awards or HM’s will be left up to the discretion of the judges.

ANNUAL COMPETITION

An annual competition will be held on the last meeting in May. This contest is for your 4 best entries per division that have not been entered in a previous annual competition. Any picture that has received an Award or HM in monthly competitions is also eligible.

All entries will be judged under one of two divisions:  print or electronic image. Judges will select a "Best of Year" in each division and these will be awarded an award at the annual Awards Banquet.

ANNUAL AWARDS

Based on the total cumulative points, a first and second place award will be given in each class providing a minimum of 9 entries per individual has been entered. These awards will be presented at the annual Camera Club Awards Banquet.
